TOKYO -- Japan's industrial equipment and machine tool businesses face dimming prospects in the April-June quarter due to the slowing Chinese economy, a Nikkei survey shows.

The industrial equipment and machine tool industry was the one sector that was downgraded. Presented in the form of a weather forecast, the outlooks for seven industries were described as either "drizzling" or "rainy" -- the two worst out of five categories. This was an increase from four for the October-December quarter. A fall in smartphone-related orders from China as well as a reduction in smartphone production by Apple were among the factors seen as responsible.
